The Campaign for Good Governance group, has come out in support of Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha, for the position of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The group which is based in Kano in a statement over the weekend, said it was proper for the women to occupy one of the four major positions of the 10th National Assembly namely, president of the senate, deputy senate president, speaker of the house of representatives and deputy speaker.

The group which is an All Progressives Congress, APC network group while appealing to the newly elected and returning members of the House of Representatives said it was “only rational that one of the six top leadership offices in Nigeria, should accommodate a woman.”

They argued that “since Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha was the only woman among the seven contenders for the seat of the Speaker, “common sense dictates that the women should be carried along by our great party.

“We appreciate the fact that our great party has zoned these seats in the wisdom of our leaders. Fortunately, Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha comes from the zone given the Deputy speakership. We are saying that we have enough men there already and the women deserve the deputy speaker slot”.

Alhaji Bello Abdulkadir, the convener of the group, who signed the statement released on Saturday said “Nigeria deserves balancing in every department so as to carry every one along in both gender and religious issues.

Meanwhile, insiders in the national Assembly also informed, that several stakeholders of the party from Imo State, have also weighed in on Hon. Princess Onuoha’s ambition. According to our source, the stakeholders have reached out to President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu over the matter.

One of the stakeholders who is a close associate to the Governor of the state  said the stakeholders have also put in words in support of Hon. Onuoha with the party leadership.

MOTHER BATH DAUGHTER WITH BOILING WATER OVER REFUSAL TO WASH PLATES.

Child abuse took another ugly dimensions was in the early hours of today Monday morning 7.35am 22nd May 2023 at Otomewo by Oduduru road . when a young mother uncontrollably poured steaming hot water on her daughter aged 7.

The wailing of the child who ran out into the street of Oduduru street attracted residents of the area who came with palliative domestic treatment to lessen the agony of the girl with scalds from the burn.

While residents were openly condemning the wicked act by the mother of two. who seemed unperturbed by her cruel act on her daughter, some sympathisers made efforts to contacted  the father, a commercial rider on the situation in his home.

The girl, said to be stubborn in carrying out domestic duties received the harsh treatment from her mother. following her refusal to wash dirty dishes before attending school.

When accosted by aggrieved sympathisers about the incident, the accused mother who refused to follow the cry of her injured child said she did not consider the gravity of her action while the father, who later came back from his transportation business was seen not in any sorry mood for his agonising daughter.

Some neighbors and relatives of the young family said the brutal attack of the mother deserved police and human rights attention, having contracted the law enforcement agents.

Oduduru street attracted attention six years ago when a pastor's son butchered a fellow member of his father's church in their home at Oduduru street, Sapele.

The 15 years son of a church pastor who was later remanded at the Sapele Remand Home awaiting adulthood for prosecution had allegedly  murdered the 15 years old girl on the promise of #15.000 for the job by suspected ritualists.

However, there seems to be a truncation of the judicial prosecution of the Oduduru killing following what was adduced as a jail break at the Sapele Remand Home with escape of several inmates including the detained son of the pastor.

COLORADO WOMAN 31, JAILED FOR HAVING A BABY WITH 13-YEAR OLD BOY

31-year-old Andrea Serrano, from Colorado, who admitted to having sex with a then 13-year-old boy, and then having his child, has been sentenced to three months in prison after she was initially freed shortly after her original arrest in July of 2022 on a $70,000 bond.

The Fountain Police Department had charged Serrano at the time with sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, as well as sexual assault on a child. Investigators said that Serrano admitted to the relationship.

In March, it was widely reported that Serrano's lawyers had come to a plea deal with prosecutors that would force her to register as a sex offender but meant she would avoid prison and be put on probation until May.

Now, she must serve 90 days in prison in addition to still having to comply to the original terms of the plea deal. The terms included ten years to life on sex offender intensive supervised probation.

Since her arrest, Serrano has given birth to the teen's baby. The child is in her care. His family are planning to petition the courts to gain custody. The victim is now 14 years old.

'He looked at her like a mother figure and even called her "mom" before,' according to the criminal affidavit in the case, cited by the Colorado Springs Gazette.

'I feel like my son is robbed of his childhood. Now he's having to be a father. He's a victim, and he's going to have to live with that for the rest of his life,' the victim's mother told KKTV after the plea deal was made public.

'I feel like if she was a man and he was a little girl, it would definitely be different. They would be seeking more. I feel like because he is not a woman, they are not. They are having compassion for her,' she added.

FORUM CONDEMN APC'S EXCEPTION OF WOMEN IN COUNTY'S LEADERSHIP

A South West women group-Women Leadership Forum, WLF, has condemned the constitution of the leadership table in Nigeria as presently constituted.

In a communique issued after a meeting of the Group in Abuja on Thursday, the women said the All Progressives Congress, APC leadership has reneged on the 35 percent affirmative on gender equality with no woman found in the first six of the country’s leadership table.

According to the group, it was “outrageous that women in Nigeria are not considered for any of the too first six positions in the country.”

The communique signed by chairperson of the forum, Chief Mrs. Funke Ariyo reads in part, “We are surprised that a personality like the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu will preside over the marginalization of women in this dispensation. The President-elect, vice President-elect are men. The President-elect is right now supporting an all male senate president and deputy. He is also supporting an all male speaker and deputy of the House of Representatives. This is absurd to say the least”.

“We are particularly worried that President-elect Asiwaju Tinubu whose wife, Senator Oluremi, is a distinguished senator of the federal Republic, will allow this marginalization,” the statement concluded.
