Environmental Sanitation: Abeke's Diligence Keeps Sapele Clean

The diligence of the Sapele local government Chairman Hon. Bright Afure Abeke in ensuring that environmental Sanitation exercise holds once every month is consistently keeping Sapele clean.

The Sanitation exercise observed today is no difference as residents responded promptly in keeping their surroundings tidy, as it is gradually becoming a culture in Sapele local government area that every last Saturday of the month is for cleaning exercise.

There was restriction of vehicular movement for the hours of 7.00am to 10.00am except for those on essential duties.

As early as 6.00am, Monitoring teams comprising of Health workers and staff from the local government, Journalist, Bulldozers, Tipper trucks were assigned by the  Secretary of the local government, Hon. Raymond Overah to various dump sites in Sapele Metropolis and environ to aid in evacuating refuse dumps.

At Poultry road, the dump sites were cleared and residents were aided in evacuating debris from their sanitation efforts in their surroundings.

A resident interviewed that gave his name as Desmond Omamoke praised the consistent efforts of the local government Chairman in ensuring that Sanitation exercise is observed monthly in Sapele, as the effort has consistently kept the town clean and tidy at all times.

James Omamode another resident commented that he always look forward to every last Saturday of the month as it has become his culture to set that day apart for cleaning both his environment and his home.

James gave kudos to Hon. Bright Afure Abeke for his diligence in making sure that Sapele local government area is clean at all time for cleanliness is next to Godliness.

Few defaulters were apprehended and asked to face the Sanitation Mobile Court at the local government Secretariat.

Moving round town, it was observed that all dump sites were attended to and cleared.

Worthy of notes are the dump sites along the ever busy New Ogorode road, OKPE Grammar School, Ojolu, Ireto road , Shell road, Sapele main Market, Major Bower area, Ogorode axis and others.

At the Sapele local government Secretariat, sanitation exercise was observed in and around the environment.

Okpe Communities Raise Alarm After Violent Attacks

…Protesters march in Sapele, demand urgent government intervention

Fresh unrest has gripped Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State following midnight raids that left parts of Otonyasere community in ruins. Residents allege that armed youths from Abigborodo in Warri North stormed the area on September 16, torching houses, shops, and properties. The assault, they say, is the latest flare-up in the long-running boundary dispute between the Okpe and Itsekiri peoples.

The outrage spilled into the streets a week later, on September 23, when hundreds of indigenes under the banner of the Okpe Youth Council Worldwide staged a peaceful demonstration. Led by National President Comrade Moses Newcome Odiete, the protesters thronged Sapele town with placards and chants, demanding that both the Federal and Delta State Governments put a stop to what they described as systematic oppression.

Odiete accused the Alema of Warri Kingdom and his followers of sponsoring the violence. “Okpe Osobo Forest Reserve is our ancestral land. They crossed the boundary bridge with guns, burning homes and chasing people out. We are peace-loving, but nobody has a monopoly of violence,” he warned. He insisted that Okpe would resist further incursions if government failed to act.

Community leaders echoed his claims, citing historical and legal precedents. Dr. Austin Arieja, a prominent Okpe voice, stressed that the disputed land has long been adjudged to belong to Okpe. “Their forebears lost repeatedly in court. Why revisit a settled matter? The Olu of Warri should call his people to order before things spiral out of hand,” he urged. Former Secretary-General of Sapele Okpe Community, Mr. Freeborn Ogodo, blamed political protection for the renewed aggression. “They attack because they feel untouchable. Our patience is not weakness. Abuja must wade in decisively,” he cautioned.

Traditional rulers, too, spoke out in pain. Okakuro Godwin Daddy revealed that he had lost his home and properties worth millions. “This is Sapele, Ward 7 — not Warri North. The Alema once vowed to burn my house, and today I am homeless. Where is the justice?” he asked. Victims narrated their losses in tears. A trader said he lost freezers, boat engines, palm oil, and cash after his house was set ablaze. Mrs. Morine Onojaefemre recounted how she fled through the bush with her children, only to lose her motorcycle and belongings to the flames. “I am left with nothing to feed my children,” she cried.

The protest later moved to the Sapele Local Government Secretariat, where demonstrators were received by Mr. Felix Abone, Executive Assistant to Chairman Bright Abeke. Abone assured the crowd that government was addressing the crisis. “The chairman is already in Asaba with the Governor. We commend your peaceful protest. Be assured that justice will be done,” he promised, adding that a stakeholders’ meeting would soon hold to broker peace.

Okpe elders, however, insist the violence has been festering for months. They recalled that in June, two bulldozers belonging to Seplat contractors were destroyed in the same forest, a move they described as deliberate sabotage aimed at driving away farmers and fishermen. “That was the warning sign. Armed youths were used to clear people off the land for a forceful takeover,” leaders explained.

With many families now displaced, Okpe leaders are making passionate appeals to President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and security agencies to intervene. “Our people are unsafe in their own homes. Government must uphold the law, restore peace, and stop this land grab before it explodes into a larger conflict,” the protesters declared.

Media Group Applauds Sapele DPO's Development Strides,Urges United Front Against Crime

A leading media monitoring organization, The Whistleblower, has commended the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Sapele Division, CSP Johnbull Obioguru, for his outstanding developmental initiatives and commitment to community policing. The group made this known during a recent on-the-spot assessment visit to the Sapele Police Station, Delta State, as part of their regional oversight on public office performance in the South-South.

Led by its Convener, Comrade Nelson Agbajor,  a respected journalist, public affairs analyst, and Editor-in-Chief of Nel Xpress Magazine , the media team expressed satisfaction with the transformation taking place at the Sapele Division under CSP Obioguru's leadership. They described the visible progress as unprecedented and exemplary, urging other divisions in the state to emulate such impactful leadership.

According to Comrade Agbajor, the renovation of the police station has brought a complete facelift to the division. Facilities such as the administrative offices, the detention cell, and offices for officers have been rehabilitated and fitted with modern furnishings, state-of-the-art CCTV systems, and other critical infrastructure aimed at improving police service delivery.

The team also noted ongoing infrastructural upgrades, including the construction of a new police post, digital signposts, the interlocking of the station premises, and the renovation of the DPO’s residential quarters. The Sapele Police Clinic has also received attention, reflecting a holistic approach to welfare and working conditions within the force.

The Whistleblower team further commended CSP Obioguru’s commitment to training and retraining personnel from Sapele and neighboring divisions like Jesse, Koko, Oghara, Abraka, and Mosogar. These training programs are focused on arms handling, modern policing techniques, and professionalism , all aimed at boosting the effectiveness of police officers.

Similarly, on security operations, the group highlighted recent successes in crime prevention and enforcement. Notably, over six suspected criminals were recently apprehended around the NDDC axis, many of whom were reported to be non-residents of Sapele. The DPO, under his declared mandate of “Operation No Hiding Place for Criminals,” continues to lead aggressive efforts to rid the community of crime and safeguard lives and property.

While applauding the division’s efficient patrol system, the group called on the state government and relevant authorities to provide additional patrol vehicles to further strengthen mobility and responsiveness in the area.

The Delta State Commissioner of Police is scheduled to officially commission the newly renovated Sapele Police Headquarters on Saturday, September 27. The Whistleblower team will also be extending its monitoring tour to other Local Government Areas across Delta State and beyond to evaluate projects initiated by political office holders and organizations, in line with its mission to ensure quality service delivery and accountability.

The executive Chairman Sapele Local Government area, Hon. Afure, Bright Abeke has emerged winner of the prestigious Nigerian Local Government Chairmen Merit Award ( LOGMA 2025).

The recognition is a testament of the outstanding contribution of Hon. Bright Abeke's administration in roads, Education, Women development and Security.

The panel of Judges of  the award Committee praised Abeke's leadership as accountable, People - Centered and responsive to Socio- economic challenges.

Abeke stated that this achievement is not just a victory for him, but for the entire people of Sapele, the local government that have trusted and supported his administration.

Bishop Precious Akpore Marked 22 Years In Ministry In Grand Style.

Bishop Precious Akpore, the Founder of Channels of Greatness Unshakable Ministry ( a.k.a He dey work) celebrated his 22nd anniversary in ministry, which is a significant milestone in the history of   the Ministry.

The event which took place at his residence in Jesse,  not only recognizes his years of service and dedication, but also coincided with the unveiling of his new mansion, to further underscore the grandeur of the occasion and his achievements.

The event drew a large crowd of friends, family and the Church congregation to honor the remarkable journey of Bishop Akpore's contribution to spiritual life and community leadership.

The dual celebration of the anniversary and the opening of his Manson symbolizes both his personal accomplishments and his ongoing commitment to his community.

Present at the occasion were the Traditional Leader of Idjerhe Kingdom, His Majesty , Obukohwo Whiskey  Ph.D , Udurhie 1, Who performed the symbolic cutting of the tape to open the Manson, Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Delta State, Hon Ejiro Ijamani, The Founder of Promise Kingdom Ministry( a.k.a. Overflow Chapel) Bishop Goddey Iboyi, Hon. Austin Ayemidejor, and others.

Commenting on the event, Bishop Goddey Iboyi said he had known Bishop Precious Akpore over the years of ministry as a hard working Man of God that believe in togetherness as he does not discriminate.

Iboyi added that Bishop Akpore is a Focus dedicated Man of God and a Father to all.

Also commenting, Ejiro Ijamani said he had benefited and is still benefiting from Spiritual counsel from Bishop Precious Akpore, who he term to be a Humble Bishop that is close to all irrespective of status.
