The Permanent Secretary in the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Oghoro has admonished children to be responsible and strive not just to adopt their strategies of their role models but to surpass their achievements in life .
Oghoro gave the advice in his office in Asaba when he received over 100 children, who were delegates of the 7th Didactic Young Stars Summit led by its Convener, Mr. Eichie Stephen Oseiwe paid him a courtesy call.
He explained that the state government had arranged the academic calendar in such a way that after twelve to thirteen weeks, children could rest for a period of two to three weeks before resuming for the next term.
Oghoro, who said that Delta State Government had made it compulsory for every school to organise sporting activities between first and second term to engage the children, stress the need for them to belong to different clubs in the school that would impact on their lives.
He said that their participation in school club activities would enable them understand their environment and the society better .
The PS stated that it was important to expose the children early enough to leadership skills, adding that whenever the society got it right with the children, there would be no much leadership problems in Nigeria.
He described the theme of the summit: ' impact of extra curricular activities in the development of the child ' as apt and commended the organisers for their efforts in sustaining the summit since 2016.
He expressed the willingness of the Ministry to partner with the 7th Didactic Young Stars Summit.
Earlier, the Convener of 7th Didactic Young Stars Summit, Mr. Eichie said that as leaders of tomorrow, it was important to equip the children with the requisite leadership skills, saying that they had trained them on social responsibility and self confidence.
Eichie stated that the group had taken up different topics on societal issue , noting that recently, they organised a programme on effects of child molestation.
