Many persons were feared to have died in an accident that occured at one of the oil rig owned by Seplat energy at Ugborhen, in Sapele local government area.
The incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday 15 August when. work was ongoing at the drilling site.
It was gathered that about 96 persons were on the rigg when it collapsed.
A source from Ugborhen that pleaded anonymity said workers employed in the project from Ugborhen town were mainly casuals and were not at the rig when the accident occurred.
He added that a lot of persons must have lost their lives in the incident but wondered if the company will be bold enough to mention the actual number that died.
However, in a press release, Seplat energy informed the public of the unfortunate incident and claimed that One death was recorded, Three are still missing and that efforts are ongoing to search for the missing workers.
The release had it that there were 96 workers on the rig at the time of the accident and 92 had so far been accounted for as safe.
The official statement also reveal that a detail investigation into the incident shall be conducted and further detail of the serious accident shall be communicated as things unfold.
The statement from Seplat energy was signed by the Chief executive Officer of the company, Mr. Roger Brown.
