ROTARY AND ROTARACT CLUBS IN ASABA EMBARK ON MATERNAL, CHILD HEALTH CARE PROJECT IN DELTA COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER


The Rotary clubs of Asaba Government House, Asaba Downtown, Okpanam Hilltop, Issele-Azagba Uptown and Asaba Bonsaac  and Rotaract clubs under District 9141 Nigeria ,have  carried out a-four in one project at the Ugbolu Primary Health Care Centre in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State .

 The project saw the presentation of mattresses , pillows/pillow cases, bedsheets, window curtains, the provision of hand hygiene materials, sanitary waste Bin , planting of ecnomic trees to protect the environment and clearing  of overgrown weeds within the premises  to enhance health care service delivery for the end users. 

The project covered four areas of focus  out of rotary's seven areas of focus namely maternal and child health care, dsease prevention and water and sanitation as well as environment 

Speaking at the event, the  Assistant Governor of zone 22, Rtn. Peter Itawansa said that the gesture was in line with visions of rotary clubs globally, adding that rotary activities was about the upliftment of humanity.

Rtn. Itawawansa , who performed the symbolic planting  of coconut trees at the Health Centre, noted that the project would help to cushion the atmospheric effect mothers passed through during and after child birth .

In their separate remarks, the President of Rotary Club of Asaba Government House , Rtn. Ukala Gibson  and the President of Rotary Club of Asaba Downtown, Rtn.Honnah Nnamdi explained that rotary international had seven areas of focus, adding that they were focusing on four critical areas including maternal and child care, tree planting on the environment, water and sanitation,  disease prevention and control.

While saying that the  project was being carried in adherence with the rules and regulations of rotary international, Rtn. Ukala  and Rtn. Nnamdi stated that the gesture was to ensure that mothers and their babies were adequately taken care of before, during and after delivery.

They recalled that before they embarked on the provision of the items to the health centre,  there was needs assessment survey which they carried out to ascertain the actual needs of the centre, emphasising that after observing the status of the items in the hospital when they met the matron of the health centre taking delivery of a mother they decided to boost the health centre with the new items.

Rtn. Ukala and Rtn. Nnamdi advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items so as to ensure that the purpose for which they were provided was achieved.

The representative of Ugbolu Community, Mr. Ifesinachi Nwanze ,who was elated thanked the Rotarians for the gesture and appealed to the State Government to rehabilitate the road leading to the health centre and provide more equipments to boost heath care delivery in the health centre.

Responding, the Chief Nursing Officer of the Health Centre, Okwuedoe Chinwe pledged to ensure that the items donated will be effectively utilized and appreciated the donors of the items,the rotary Clubs for finding Ugbolu Primary Health Care Centre worthy to benefit from their goodwill and called on other corporate organisations and spirited individuals to emulate Rotary International .

The project Chair, Augusta Impact Keneboh thanked Rotarians for coming out in numbers to  participate in this noble service to humanity.
